The Grooved End Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) is a heavy-duty, hydraulically operated diaphragm control valve engineered to automatically reduce high upstream inlet pressure to a constant, stable downstream operating pressure, regardless of flow demand changes or inlet pressure fluctuations.

Featuring standard roll-grooved ends in full compliance with AWWA C606 / ANSI B16.10, this Fire Protection Pressure Reducing Valve eliminates the labor-intensive bolting process required by traditional flanged valves. Q1: Why choose a Grooved End PRV over a traditional Flanged PRV?

A grooved end connection installs up to 3 to 4 times faster than a traditional flanged connection. It eliminates the need for flange bolt alignment, torqueing multiple bolts, or replacing flange gaskets. Additionally, roll-grooved couplings allow 360-degree rotation during assembly and naturally absorb pipeline vibration, thermal expansion, and seismic stress.

Q2: Is this Grooved PRV approved for automatic fire sprinkler systems?

Yes. Our grooved pressure reducing valves are designed and manufactured in full compliance with UL 1739, FM, and NFPA 13 & 14 standards for fire sprinkler risers, standpipe networks, and deluge systems. (Detailed technical submittals and UL/FM test certificates are available upon request).

Q3: What is the minimum flow rate required for precise valve operation?

Pilot-operated diaphragm valves rely on line pressure differential to operate. While our PRVs function across a wide flow range, extremely low continuous flows (below 1–2% of rated capacity) may cause minor valve hunting or seat chatter. For systems with prolonged near-zero trickle flow, installing a smaller bypass PRV or selecting a low-flow pilot model is recommended.

Q4: Can this Grooved PRV handle high pressure drops without cavitation?

When the differential pressure ratio (inlet vs. outlet) exceeds 3:1, cavitation noise and internal erosion can occur. For extreme pressure reductions (e.g., reducing 250 PSI down to 50 PSI), we recommend installing two PRVs in series (staged pressure reduction) or specifying an optional anti-cavitation stainless steel trim package.
