A black steel single coupling is a pipe fitting used to join two lengths of pipe end-to-end:
- It consists of a tubular sleeve made of mild carbon steel. Both ends are internally threaded.
- One end thread allows it to screw onto the plain end of one pipe section securely. The other end is for screwing onto another plain pipe end.
- Used for joining two threaded or unthreaded pipe sections in line without any additional threaded connectors or sealant.
- Common sizes range from 1/2″ to 6″ in pipe diameter to match standard black pipe dimensions.
