What Is Stainless Steel Flexible Hose?

Stainless steel flexible hose are used to connect equipment and piping where vibration isolation or movement is required. They are used in applications that demand corrosion resistance and durability.

Braided flexible hose:

Convoluted braided hoses: These have a convoluted inner tube with an external stainless steel wire braid for reinforcement. They provide vibration damping, noise reduction and flexibility.

Spiral braided hoses: Similar to convoluted braided hoses but with a spiral inner tube that allows for greater flexibility. The wire braid provides burst strength and protects the inner tube.

Compensator braided hoses: Have a bellows or convoluted inner tube to absorb movement in multiple directions. The stainless steel wire braid provides support and strength.

Unbraided flexible hose:

Bellows hoses: Consist of accordion-style stainless steel bellows that provide flexibility without internal reinforcement. They offer high pressure resistance and allow for angular movement.

Rubber expansion joints: Made of nitrile rubber or EPDM with stainless steel flanges. They absorb expansion/contraction caused by temperature changes and compensate for pipe misalignment.

PTFE lined hoses: Have a PTFE liner with a stainless steel outer cover. The PTFE lining provides chemical resistance for use with aggressive fluids.

• Braided hoses tend to have higher burst pressures due to the wire reinforcement.
• Non-braided bellows and rubber hoses allow for greater flexibility and angular movement.
• Braided hoses offer better abrasion and cut resistance due to the wire braid layer.
• Non-braided hoses are often more chemically resistant due to PTFE or rubber lining materials.
